CBSE Rolls Out 14 New Capacity Building Programmes for Teachers from October

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will launch 14 new Capacity Building Programmes (CBPs) for teachers starting October 2025, reinforcing professional development frameworks under NEP 2020.These CBPs cover subject-specific modules (Hindi, Sanskrit, Science, Mathematics, Economics, Art, Social Science) and cross-disciplinary themes like STEM education and value-based learning

Designed at the recent National Teachers’ Conference, the programmes include training manuals, session plans, and rubrics for assessments. One notable component: guidance on designing MCQs, descriptive and case-based questions focusing on real‑world application and analytical thinking. Schools are required to register via CBSE’s Prashikshan Triveni portal. Implementation will be overseen via CBSE’s network of Centers of Excellence (CoEs), such as the Pune CoE for Maharashtra.

Education experts view this rollout as a timely reinforcement of continuous professional development (CPD). The risk, however, lies in uptake: teacher workload, resource constraints in remote schools, and alignment to local needs may influence participation. Principals have been urged to prioritize enrollment based on individual teacher skill gaps.

In the broader NEP 2020 frame, CBSE’s move signals a shift from one‑time orientation towards ongoing, structured capacity building as integral to system improvement. The hope is that enhanced pedagogical practices, subject clarity, and 21st‑century skill integration will gradually reflect in student outcomes and classroom culture.
