Maharashtra Bars Admissions in 89 Pharmacy Colleges Over Violations

  The Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) has prohibited 89 pharmacy colleges in Maharashtra from admitting new students for the 2025–26 academic year due to regulatory non-compliance. The affected institutions include 71 diploma colleges and 18 offering degree courses.

  Inspections carried out over the past three years revealed multiple violations: missing fire and safety certifications, absence of required occupancy approvals, insufficient infrastructure and labs, and unqualified teaching staff. Some colleges attempted to submit documents from local bodies or private entities, which were deemed invalid by inspectors. Following the findings, PCI officially issued a circular disallowing these colleges from participating in the admission process.

  The colleges span districts including Thane, Kolhapur, Nagpur, Nashik, and Solapur, raising concerns about access to pharmaceutical education in those areas.
