To accelerate AI literacy in India’s school ecosystem, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is launching free online AI bootcamps for both students and teachers, beginning September 2025. The Economic Times The initiative is part of CBSE’s broader effort to embed AI into mainstream school curricula.

The bootcamps will provide a blend of conceptual modules, project-based learning, mentorship, and recognition, allowing participants to gain hands-on exposure to AI tools and applications. The Economic Times CBSE aims to foster capacity not just among learners but also equip teachers to integrate AI into pedagogy.

This move aligns with trends in many states that are already introducing AI into school curricula—such as Punjab’s plan to introduce AI education in Classes VI–XII. The Times of India+1 Analysts believe that by frontloading AI literacy at school level, students will be better prepared for future career demands and innovation-driven sectors.

CBSE officials say details on registration, schedule, and eligibility will be shared on official channels. They emphasize that the bootcamps will prioritize scalability, inclusivity, and ongoing support, especially for schools with limited digital infrastructure.

Potential challenges include ensuring reliable internet connectivity in rural areas, access to hardware for participants, and sustained engagement beyond the bootcamp period. But critics say this is a timely step: as AI becomes pervasive across industries, school systems must move beyond theory to practical, equitable exposure.
