The Services of Mumbai’s Dabbawala were barred in More than 50% School in Mumbai, especially in South Mumbai due to Student’s Security reason.
But Now, CM Devendra Fadnavis and Stae Education Minister Vinod Tawde have told Schools to remove these barriers and directed police and government authorities to facilitate dabbawala services to school kids.

The ban was imposed on Dabbala’s as they serve as a treat to students security according to the schools.

While the dabbawala community claimed that they are providing a complete home-cooked meal. Students can stay healthy by eating these meals instead of eating some junk food from the canteen.

a letter statig that “Private schools are encouraging children to eat in the school canteen by bringing ban on domestic boxes. It is the interest of the schools to fill their own pockets” was also issued.

On one hand, the State Government has recently banned the sale of junk food in the school canteen, Many parents are unable to pack the lunches at 7 am when most of the schools begin their sessions. They have to rely on dabbawala to get nutritious food to their children.

The intervention came after BJP MLA Ashish Shelar wrote a letter seeking permission for the entry of Dabbawala in school premises. He said the security concern can be taken care by registration of Dabbawalas and issuing the Identity cards as school issues to staff and its other service providers

Considering the concerns raised by both schools and the dabbawala association, Fadnavis has directed the police commissioner to convene a joint meeting and find a solution. Tawde has instructed the education department to ask the concerned schools to permit the entry of dabbawalas.
