Interview – Dr. Krishna Shetty, Director of UKS Institute of Management and Studies
The team of First Education News visited Bunts Sangha’s UKS Institute of Management Studies & Research on Monday 21st May 2018.
Bunts Sangha established in 1927 is a socio-cultural organization of Bunts community of Mumbai and endeavors to promote Socio-economic, cultural and educational aspects of its members. A community dedicated to the welfare not only of its own people but also the society at large. The Bunts Sangha Group is a pioneer in the field of education and its foray extends back to over five decades.
The Sangha established two night schools for needy children as early as 1950. These night schools have produced thousands of excellent students and some of them have gone on to become distinguished industrialists, bankers, lawyers, doctors and chartered accountants. The SM Shetty School and Jr. College established in 1998 now imparts education to almost 3000 students every year.
The Bunts Sangha aptly realized the need and importance of higher education. Hence, in its Platinum jubilee celebrations in 2003 the Sangha decided to establish Higher Education Institutions for the needy students of Mumbai. The Higher Education Project Education Complex at Kurla now hosts a variety of courses like BMS, BSc.I.T., BSc. Hospitality Studies, BMM, B.Com Accounts & Finance and B.Com Banking & Insurance with about 2000+ students. Our Team met Dr. Krishna Shetty, Director of UKS Institute of Management and Studies and asked his opinion about “Technology in Education”
Dr. Krishna Shetty was a practising advocate in the Mumbai High Court before changed his career to pursue his passion for teaching. He has done his Masters in Commerce, Law and General Management and Education Management. He has also done the Entrepreneurship Educators Course from IIM Bangalore in collaboration with the London Business School. He is a PhD in Management Studies and has been teaching Law and Management subjects since more than two decades. His innovative practices in teaching have been acknowledged by various forums including the National Entrepreneurship Network. He is also an entrepreneur and owns a restaurant. He has presented papers and published research papers in various national and international conferences. He is at present the Director of Bunts Sangha’s UKS Institute of Management Studies at Mumbai.
Dr Shetty told that their institute is well equipped with latest technologies like latest Labs with License, smart classrooms with internet facility and other management softwares.
According to Dr. Shetty, Technology is very important in today’s modern education. He says ” a person can have limited capacity. But with technology sky is the limit. Students can work smarter and better with technology”
He believes ” The use of technology should be self monitored and should be used for self development rather than entertainment”
