Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) announced on Tuesday that it has partnered with the Tata Institute of Social Sciences – School of Vocational Education (TISS-SVE) in Mumba to train young people in the automotive retail industry.

Under the terms of the agreement, the company will collaborate with TISS-SVE to offer a customized three-year degree program in retail management with a focus on automotive retail.

The program will concentrate on providing youth with industry-relevant technical and soft skills, allowing them to work in the automotive retail value chain.

One year of classroom training will be followed by two years of on-the-job training at Maruti Suzuki authorized dealerships.

“The availability of skilled personnel is one of the major challenges that the automobile industry faces. We hope to close this skill gap by partnering with Tata Institute of Social Sciences’ School of Vocational Education “Manoj Agrawal, MSI Executive Vice President, said in a statement.

He added that the required 24-month on-the-job training will provide students with in-depth knowledge, prepare them to face real-life on-the-ground challenges, and make them industry-ready.

Maruti and TISS-SVE collaborated on the course curriculum, which follows UGC guidelines and covers the full spectrum of automotive business processes.

Students will be taught Japanese work culture, soft skills, and other topics in addition to getting hands-on experience at the dealerships.

The first batch of students for the academic year 2021-22 will begin classes in October 2021.

“With regular industry interaction and on-the-job training, the industry integrated program will provide students with both theoretical and practical knowledge. The course will prepare students for a promising career in Indian automobile sales “Shalini Bharat, TISS Vice-Chancellor, stated.

MSI’s collaboration with TISS-SVE is part of the company’s ongoing effort to provide youth across the country with skill-based training opportunities.

Similar courses were previously launched by the company with Shri Vishwakarma Skill University in Gurugram, Haryana, GLS University in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, and Savitribai Phule Pune University in Pune, Maharashtra.
