CBSE Announces Alternative Activities For Science Practical Work In Classes 9, 10

According to the board, these hands-on activities have been designed to have similar learning outcomes for all lab experiments required for Class 9 and Class 10 in the 2021-22 academic year.
New Delhi, India: The CBSE has compiled a list of alternative science experiments that students can conduct at home using common household items. According to the board, these hands-on activities have been designed to have similar learning outcomes for all lab experiments required for Class 9 and Class 10 in the 2021-22 academic year.
According to the board, the COVID-19 lockdown and subsequent school closure reduced the amount of time available for face-to-face instruction and hands-on teacher-guided Science practical work. To address this, the board issued guidance to schools in September last year on how to conduct practical work during the lockdown, advising them to use the OLabsto platform to provide a virtual experience of CBSE curriculum-aligned experiments activities for classes 9 to 12, it added.
The board also provided schools with a list of additional activities from the NCERT lab manual for Class 9 and Class 10.
“Step-by-step guides, videos, and worksheets for students to record observations accompany these hands-on activities. The content package also includes a list of materials needed for each experiment, as well as alternatives to help learners,” the board said about the alternate activities.
ThinkTac has provided the content for the activities. According to the CBSE, it is also available on the Diksha portal.
“While the activities and materials have been chosen to be safe for learners to do on their own,” the board stated, “teachers are required to review them before assigning them and advise parents if any specific activity requires supervision.”
“CBSE will provide an online training on how to use these activities; details will be provided separately.” The list of class 9 and 10 lab experiments, as well as links to hands-on activities that can be used as a substitute, is included as an Annexure to this circular,” it said.
