23% Fall in BMC School Enrollment

In spite of constant increase in budget and spending on Education by Government, the Enrollment in BMC School have fallen by 23% i.e from 4,04,251 in 2013-14 to 3,11,663 in 2017-18

The report presented by Praja Foundation revealed above fact.

It was also observed that 426 BMC schools have enrollment below 100. i.e. 35% of other schools. In last 10 years 299 schools have been closed down out of which 48.5% are Marathi School and 39.7 are other medium schools such as Gujarati, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada etc.

While the number of schools with up to 100 students has increased in the past five years – from 311 in 2013-14 to 426.

The municipal budget for education has raised from 1540 in 2013-14 to 2094 in 2017-18

The closure of school is mainly for Marathi Medium and other language mediums. While English Medium high school are increased by 84 as well as 179 schools have started Secondary School.
