IIT Gandhinagar students develop voice-controlled device, People without operable arms can be fed

Praveen Venkatesh and Chris Francis, IIT Gandhinagar’s first year students, developed a device that can feed individuals without arms that operates on voice command.
People without operable arms can now feed themselves by providing a voice command to a dining assistant, ‘ FoodBuddy, ‘ who does everything from bringing the spoon down to the plate to lifting it to the mouth.
The device which works via voice command through Google Assistant or Amazon’s Alexa .
“The most unique characteristic of the device is that it utilizes a considerably smaller amount of components compared to current products and is therefore cost-effective,”
The students also filed for a patent for the innovative device which according to them will cost Rs 2,000 to 3,000.
People with non-operable weapons need help in eating food along with several other duties. Generally, a family member, friend or caregiver feeds the person, but sometimes this leads to problems when the caregiver has to be away for a while or is not in a state to feed a person. Therefore, such a device needed in the Indian market?
