Life Long Learner /Learning – Just a Name or Need

Life Long Learner /Learning – Just a Name or Need

After seeing the details of the talks during this pandemic, and working with the education system since 2011, these trying times have made us understand that has the role of an educator changed? Do the educators need to upgrade themselves to a different level and completely amalgamate the technology with the learnings? Will the educators of tomorrow need to have a switch on and off Virtual button to switch between virtual learning and Brick Mortar School Learning Environments? How can Management ensure the Capacity Building of a teacher? We have different Quotients in Education ranging from Intelligence Quotient, Emotional Quotient, and Cultural Intelligence Quotient. What will be that new quotient that the teacher/educator will have to develop to ensure the mental health of his/her students? What will an educator’s basic need be to inculcate that quotient into day to day learning? Is there something really that we cannot learn? How can we too at the same time learn and create lifelong learners?

Being a person responsible for training teachers and also ensuring inculcation of cross-curriculum development, Lesson Plans and also ensuring portion completion and tracking the minute details of activity and projects inculcations. I would really like to share my thoughts and also gather thoughts from a platform like yours to enhance and uplift educators that are in and around me.

Life-Long Learners / Life Long Learnings words that we hear so often in the education world. As educators or precisely what we need to be to create Life-Long Learners is facilitators, do we actually see ourselves as a Life-Long Learner or “Am I Truly One?”

How often do we ask this question to ourselves? This pandemic has forced us to learn and at the same time unlearn so many things. It has not only been a curse like we tend to see it but has been a great boon. The education world of India uplifted itself overnight or should we say within the wink of an eye. The technology was around always, Indian children who travel to developed countries for further studies have always been exposed to online learnings. How did they fill their forms to go there? How did they choose their university they want to study in? Did they actually physically go there? Was a family member actually present there to do the survey for them? Answering all these questions leads to one word ONLINE. A new normal most of us have accepted today. But have we accepted it wholeheartedly?

We as educators have been exposed to so many pieces of training with regards to new resources available with Technology, different ways of Assessments, different ways of interpreting learning outcomes, ways to make online friendly giving better learning outcomes technology integrated lesson plans, and whatnot. We have also seen online counseling (happens really often when a child from one country opts for further studies or a job in another country) during this pandemic soar to a new height and thus as educators, we want to take this responsibility to impart all we can to our children. The NEP introduced during this pandemic created a stir, apprehensions, aggression, and all sort of thoughts even before finding ways of implementation. We as educators resist change and expect children to accept change instantaneously.

But the major question today is are we mentally ready as educators to unlearn and learn and then relearn to be Life Long Learners and thus role model to create Life-Long Learners? So where is the Role Model educator that the children search in you?

How many of us changed the way we teach?

How many of us can utilize 10% of the available resources of technology?

How many of us have changed our habits of making lesson plans and incorporated the new normal?

Let us as educators not forget as William Arthur Ward said “The moderate teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The Superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher Inspires.

So as a teacher what is it that I did to Inspire? Await the next episodes “How can I create Life-Long learners and be one at the same time”
