“Newspapers are Mirrors of Society” – A Program by APSIT, Thane

On 23rd January, Young Minds at A. P. Shah Institute of Technology got a chance to interact with some of the members of print media.Some imminent personalities from the different newspaper houses talked about various aspects of print media. Suresh Pujari and Rakesh Pandey from Times of India Group, Sandeep Telange from Loksatta, Milind Ballal (Chief Editor)from Thane Vaibhav, Harishchandra Pawar (President, Maharashtra State Newspaper Distributor’s Union) were the Chief Guests for this Seminar.

This seminar and interactive session “Why Newspaper” was jointly organised by Thane City Newspaper Distributer’s Union and A.P. Shah Institute of Technology. It was focused majorly on encouraging the students to grow an interest of reading newspapers.

“Newspaper is the university of a common man and it is a mirror of the society”, rightly said by Mr. Millind Ballal as everyone has an access to this vast source of knowledge and it is going not only to help you grow as an individual but also as an active member of the society.

As Mr Rakesh Pandey said,”these days almost all the companies require professionals with technical knowledge as well having information about various things happening all over the world.“Though the online media and print media are coexisting we hope that today’s young generation reads newspapers to make themselves knowledgeable regarding current affairs along with academic qualifications.” Mr. Sandeep Telange added.On the matter of online news platforms like blogs and social media,Mr.Milind Ballal said that online news will only make you knowledgeable but newspapers would give you wisdom. He also puts forward an fascinating fact that according to a survey,Indians on average spend less than a minute for reading newspapers whereas the time required to read a newspaper effectively ranges around 30-45min! All the dignitaries assured audience that Media is the fourth pillar of democracy and our Media houses work hard to deliver the most accurate news.
