Social studies is a crucial part of any curriculum as it deals with a critical analysis of how the socio-economic factors affect the demographics. Preventing a student of crucial facts can be a big obstacle in his process of critical thinking about the past social changes and ever-evolving surroundings
The Central Board Of Secondary Education(CBSE
) has decided that chapters like democracy and diversity, popular struggles and movements, challenges and demography, political reforms will not be evaluated for class 10 of academic year 2019-2020. A circular released by CBSE stated that these chapters will be assessed in their periodic test but will not be included in the board examinations. The decision is believed to be a part of curriculum rationalization exercise undertaken by human resource development ministry to reduce the "burden" of the curriculum on students.
