Social studies is a crucial part of any curriculum as it deals with a critical analysis of how the socio-economic factors affect the demographics. Preventing a student of crucial facts can be a big obstacle in his process of critical thinking about the past social changes and ever-evolving surroundings

The Central Board Of Secondary Education(CBSE) has decided that chapters like democracy and diversity, popular struggles and movements, challenges and demography, political reforms will not be evaluated for class 10 of academic year 2019-2020.

A circular released by CBSE stated that these chapters will be assessed in their periodic test but will not be included in the board examinations.

The decision is believed to be a part of curriculum rationalization exercise undertaken by human resource development ministry to reduce the “burden” of the curriculum on students.
