One of the high profile professions in India is Air Hostess where they not only pay good but also get opportunity to visit different locations, meet different people and also learn a lot. The main duty of an Air Hostess is to ensure the comfort and safety of the flight’s passengers. The Air Hostess coordinate with security, guide passenger during their seat settlement and flight.

Air Hostess has an average career span of eight to ten years, later She has to move to the ground duties which include the job of a Check Hostess, training of air hostess, Ground hostess or work with the management level.

Eligibility Criteria For Air Hostess Course

The Eligibility Criteria for Air Hostess course are as follow:-

  • Mastery in spoken English and other foreign languages as required
  • 18 – 26 years of age
  • 10+2 with degree in hospitality, or other graduate degree
  • Height of min 157.5cm, Weight proportionate to the height
  • Eligible for an Indian Passport
  • Unmarried (it depend on company policy, some company accept married )
  • Perfect eyesight
  • Good health
  • Fair to clear complexion
  • 6/24 vision in each eye

Skill Required  To Become Air Hostess

Pleasing Personality: Good appearance as well as pleasant voice play very important role for air hostess as they have to be friendly with all passengers on board and A friendly outgoing personality is what makes an Air Hostess successful.

Good Communication Skills: To become air hostess  good communication is must as they meet different people for different country to communicate with them. The basic language which air hostess  should know in Hindi, Marathi, English or any national language. If the air hostess know any foreign language this will be add-on advantage for air hostess

Presence of Mind:  In the case of emergency the air hostess  has to know how to control the situation. They have to show great presence of mind in any such eventualities.

Team Work: Air hostess has to work with group that why the person should know to work in team. Usually in each team there will be 12-14 members that why they should know how to work to team without conflict.

Ready Work For Long Hours: Flight delays are very normal and hence sometimes you have to put an extra effort. At least 3 to 4 hours extra if a flight is late due to weather or some other reasons.

Examination

Each Airline company conducts examination for recruiting Air Hostesses. Usually an entire selection process can be divided into 3 stages.

Written Examination: Written exam tests your aptitude and reasoning. The exam pattern is quite similar to other competitive exams where they ask multiple type objective questions.

Group Dynamics or GD: Second stage is Group Discussion where air hostess will be tested they presence of mind, communication skills, team work, leadership quality, attitude etc.

Interview: Third and final round is one on one interview. Here the company will judge air hostess for overall personality If selected, then the company will train air hostess for next six months.

Air Hostess Courses

There are three types of courses that person can do if she/he is serious to become air hostess and detail are as follow:

Certificate Courses:

Certification courses are for 10+2 candidates. Usually the duration of a course is 6 months to 1 Year but few fast track certificate courses can be just 3 months long.

  • Air Hostess Training
  • Cabin Crew/Flight Attendant

Diploma Courses

Diploma courses can be pursued after 10+2 diploma courses can be pursued only after graduation

The duration of the course is same as certificate course.

  •  Diploma in Air Hostess Training
  •  Diploma in Aviation and Hospitality Management
  •  Diploma in Hospitality and Travel Management
  •  Diploma in Cabin Crew/Flight Attendant Training

Degree Courses

Degree courses are the most important course out of all three. The duration of the course is 3 years long and you have to be 10+2.

  • B.Sc. in Air Hostess Training
  • B.Sc. Aviation
  • Bachelor of Hospitality and Travel Management
  • Bachelor of Travel and Tourism Management

 To do this courses the approximately fees are between  Rs 50,000 to Rs 2,00,000. Fees are totally depend on  training institution.

Air Hostess Training Institute/Academy

The college that offer air hostess training are as follow

1. Frankfinn Institute of Air Hostess, New Delhi and Mumbai

2. Air Hostess Academy, Bangalore, Chandigarh, Delhi, Mumbai

3. Rajiv Gandhi Memorial College of Aeronautics, Jaipur

4. Universal Aviation Academy, Chennai

5. Rai University, Ahmedabad.

Average Salaries in Air Hostess Profession

Average salaries that airline company pay to air hostess is between Rs 20,000 to Rs 80,000 per month.

Domestic airlines pay Rs 20,000 to Rs 35,000.

International airlines  pay up to Rs 80,000 depending upon the experience.  Some  luxurious International airliners  pay between Rs 1,00,000 to Rs 2,00,000 per month to their senior air hostesses.

Companies also provide additional allowances like medical insurance, retirement plan and discounts on flight tickets.
