Aspee Nutan Academy, ICSE is one of the schools in the Mumbai suburbs which is using online resources and strategies to keep students engaged in various activities during this lock down period due to the pandemic that has threatened the globe. “This period of lockdown will definitely be marked as a dark period in the World history. At Aspee Nutan Academy the Management and staff has accepted the challenge of staying connected with our students through multiple mediums and apps.” said Mrs Nuzhat Khan, Principal, Aspee Nutan Academy when we asked her how they were coping up with the Lockdown challenge.
The teachers at the Academy have been constantly on their toes researching and preparing myriad interesting activities for the enthusiastic learners. Aspee Nutan Academy has a tie up with Karadi Tales where the kids are engaged with storytelling sessions by renowned artists. Students have been given various assignments which include researching from various online sources available for authentic data. Websites like worldbook.com, youtube.com, ncbi.nlm.nih.gov, study.com are being referred by the students for completing of assignments. Learners are growing through this kind of learning in every way. Few are making rap songs along with their families concerning the COVID 19 virus. While others are engaged in art work like giving the deadly virus a twist and presenting it as a cartoon character. Everyday a vocabulary word is posted on Whatsapp and the students of all sections are expected to make meaningful sentences on the same.
Mrs Khan the most favourite English teacher set an example for all the teachers to follow. She conducted a live debate on the topic ‘is lockdown the right measure at the time of this pandemic’ via zoom.com. Grade VII enthusiasts who actively participated in the debate as the topic was announced in advanced and were well researched for. The activity concluded by thanking the government for taking timely measures for the betterment of the entire nation.
The dedicated teachers of ANA are using applications like google classroom and zoom to conduct simulated lessons. To help a few students to connect team viewer app was also used.
Teachers took up the responsibility of not only providing learning environment to their kids but also of entertaining their dear students. Teachers of the lower grades prepared story boards and recorded stories in the most dramatic manner. The animation and modulation of the voice brought the story to life. For the teachers to record the voice and take a step to create simulation of the classroom was possible through applications like i-talk, screencast-o-matic and screen-castify. “We were so depressed initially, to know that the school is going to be shut for a long period. But now with the online teaching we eagerly take up new challenges to reach to our students and add meaningful experiences to their neurons.” said Ms Tanvi Gogri, Teacher, Aspee Nutan Academy.
Parents poured in plentiful pictures of students learning in various forms. The school selected the best work and put it up on the school facebook page as felicitation of hard work and inspiration to motivate others. This will also become memorable for the students. For in future when they see their work on the school Facebook page, they will swell with pride.
Students’ art work and solved worksheets were also monitored by parents and teachers. A schedule was prepared by the teachers to post worksheets for the young ANAites every day. This teamwork along with dedication garnished with love and hard work will keep the ANA family of learners growing and blossoming like a garden. The fruits of which will be a happier world of future.

Tomorrow when we emerge out of this crisis situation, when the earth has had its time to heal itself, when we will emerge victorious, we will look back at these memories and beam with contentment.
